Premier League
Probably the biggest of all the European leagues - certainly, the biggest as far as betting is concerned - is the Premier League. The Premier League was founded in 1991, with 22 teams breaking away from the Football League in 1992 proper. Aimed at increasing revenue from the beginning, the new league was tuned to operate on its own, with the Football League operating three other divisions. Since the 1995-96 season the Premier League has been reduced to 20 teams. The early 2000s saw the dominance of the "Top Four", being Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United. These four clubs dominated national competitions and saw regular placing in higher semi-finals and final rounds of the Champions Leagu or the UEAFA Cup. During the 2010s the "Top Four" saw competition by two more clubs, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City, turning them into the "Top Six". Especially Manchester City has been more than solid in the past 3 years, with the two last championships going their way. They are still strong this season, but of course its too early to tell.
Scottish Championship
After 2013 saw the merger of the Scottish Premier League and Scottish Football League, the Scottish Championship is played for by 10 teams. Furthermore, the current champions Kilmarnock F.C. have two squirrels on their badge. If there ever was a way to tell best not to mess with somebody, then squirrels on their badge are definitely up there we would say.
German Bundesliga
18 teams across Germany are playing for the prestigious title every season. Big clubs like Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund or Borussia Mönchengladbach are names of great renown on the international stage and also won the most championships domestically - with Munich being the runaway title holder at 31 won leagues. Really, they won it the past 10 years straight. It's getting boring lads, shape up. Thankfully, teams like Leipzig and even Leverkusen managed to somewhat claim some of their 90s glory and might be able to make it somewhat of a challenge this time. Maybe. Hopefully. Football is very important in German culture, and being a fan means more to some people than having healthy family ties or even regular employment. Never insult a German football fan for their fandom. And never argue with them about beer.
Primera Division - La Liga
The Spanish league is currently in crisis mode, with its biggest clubs spending too much on transfers and relying on a heavily lobbied licensing landscape for their revenue streams. With the early 2000s seeing Real Madrid dominating everyone and anyone both nationally and internationally, the past 12 years have seen Barcelona winning both Liga and Cup repeatedly. This of course thanks to the once-in-a-century talent Lionel Messi, but now that he has left for Saint-Germain and the rest of the cadre seems to be at odds with management who knows what the current season will bring. Last season Real Madrid won with four games to spare, just to give you an idea.
Serie A
Led by current champion AC Milan, the Italian championship is one of great history and cultural significance. Few other countries still see scores hotly debated over breakfast and even family ties endangered by player transfers as is custom in Italy. With 20 teams competing, historical clubs like Juventus and both clubs from Milan (Inter and AC) have won the title the most times, with Juventus having done so 36 (!) times already. More so than regular seasonal play, the Coppa Italia is always a great spectacle for fans abroad and almost guaranteed to attract lots of betting action from all over the continent. Traditionally, the Italian Serie A has been one of the strongest leagues in the world, with almost every top-ranked club fielding strong youth programmes to discover strong players as early as possible.
A reminder about European Leagues
Keep in mind that almost all European top leagues use a relegation system at the end of each season. This means that the weakest clubs play elimination matches against the top performers of the lower tier for a spot the season thereafter. These relegation matches usually also bring a lot of action for betting fanatics. If you want to be successful in general, some knowledge about managers, transfers and player profiles is recommended. Plus, the drama of course, can't forget about the drama. Some players are just animals off the pitch.
Champions League
The best of European football all condensed into round robin stages and a knockout format, the Champions League is perhaps the most prestigious club competition there is. Simply qualifying for it is already considered an achievement in most countries, especially now where different countries and leagues are assigned different numbers of starters. The strongest leagues get to send up to four teams, for example, while others may only send their national champions to the qualifiers. Admiral Casino provides exceptional odds and markets for international leagues such as the Champions League all year round and our live centre provides our customers with the ability to bet on live matches anywhere, anytime while all of the action is happening
